Valve & Intel Collaborating On Open-Source Drivers

anonymous reader writes, "it seems that the Linux machine that is growing Valve has found much interest in open source drivers for graphics. Intel Developer of Linux drivers and Linux Valve team met last week to find the code to another, work performance goals and collaborate on new features. Ian Romanick Intel blogs, "the funny thing is that children say the same valve on drivers. There were a couple of times we felt like they were trying to convince us that the open source drivers are a good idea. we had to remind them that they were preaching to the converted. :) the problem with closed drivers (all platforms), it's like a black box they have to play guessing games, and watch the games. no way for them to know how to change a particular parameter affects performance. If performance gets worse, have no way of knowing why. If they can see that time is on the controller, which can make the most educated guesses. "Maybe companies are paying attention to Linus Torvalds noted for NVIDIA?"
