Game on: The Darkness II

Yes, it's horrible and violent. It is also a strong rebuttal to those who say that games can not tell stories

part Godfather and part Exorcist

The Darkness II

(PS3/Xbox 360/PC) sometimes feels as much a movie as a game in the title menus, each level of difficulty of the game four was accompanied by a single sentence of explanation. The essence of the game is perfectly captured in the motto of the easiest setting, "Tell me a story."

The Darkness II

started life as a comic, and instead of walking on the path already taken the cult comic blockbuster video game tie-in, which left the middle man and go directly to 2007 of darkness - a quiet success story, both in terms of sales and reviews. This film has yet to materialize may be largely due to the configuration and macabre tone, the combination of prostitution, drugs and violence in the world of organized crime with the demonic ritual, hemophilia and Gore a journey into the depths of hell.

The couch scene is an example of how narrative games can be much richer and at the same time, much less important than in movies, and in a sense for the same reason. Unlike film, the story of a game tend to be optional - In Black II, as in most new games, players who just want to break skulls can jump almost every scene and line the dialogue, and make fun of the game trying to involve them emotionally or intellectually. Video games can still be meaningless if the player wants.
